Rachel Harmon is a strategic communications and media professional with more than 25 years of experience guiding public-facing storytelling, institutional messaging, and audience-centered communication across education, healthcare-adjacent organizations, and community-serving institutions.
Her career reflects a consistent focus on clarity, credibility, and trust — translating complex information into accessible narratives that inform, engage, and connect diverse audiences. Rachel has led large-scale video and multimedia projects, developed communications strategies within policy-driven environments, and partnered closely with subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy, context, and responsible storytelling.
Most recently, Rachel served as a high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor, where she led communications-focused programs in media, journalism, debate, photography, and publication design. In this role, she directed student journalism and yearbook teams, managed public-facing publications, and oversaw messaging that represented both students and the institution to families, stakeholders, and the broader community. Her work required consistent alignment with state standards, district policies, and public accountability expectations.
Beyond the classroom, Rachel’s leadership extended into advisory and governance roles, including service as FCCLA adviser at the school, district, and state levels, and as president of the Western Kansas Scholastic Art Association. She also served on the board of directors for the Kansas Scholastic Press Association, contributing to statewide standards for student media and publication ethics.
Earlier in her career, Rachel owned and operated an independent video production company for nearly three decades, producing award-winning content for agricultural, educational, legal, corporate, nonprofit, and community clients. Her work included documentaries, institutional histories, public education videos, event productions, and marketing communications — as well as the development of newsletters, websites, surveys, digital content, and outreach materials that supported organizational operations and engagement goals.
Rachel’s background also includes extensive experience in sports officiating, where she has officiated varsity volleyball and basketball for more than 30 years. She was recently recognized for three decades of service. This work sharpened her ability to make real-time decisions, maintain composure in high-visibility environments, communicate clearly under pressure, and operate within structured rules and accountability frameworks — skills that directly inform her approach to communications leadership.
A ten-time Telly Award winner and current member of the Telly Awards Silver Council, Rachel’s work has been recognized for excellence in storytelling, technical execution, and educational impact. She continues to consult as a communications and media specialist, supporting organizations with multimedia storytelling, public relations, and digital strategy.
Rachel holds a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning, and a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television with a minor in Animal Science from Kansas State University. Her academic background and professional experience uniquely position her to work at the intersection of communication, education, public service, and technical subject matter.
Known for her calm leadership, sound judgment, and ability to translate complexity into clarity, Rachel brings to every project a commitment to responsible communication that serves both organizations and the communities they support.
